But, I want you to know that those “self-centered” desires are divine and holy.
And, you are not a bad person for prioritizing them and it doesn’t make you a spoiled brat to think you get to have it all. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a spoiled brat but in all the kinky, hot ways and not the toxic ways.
If your upbringing was anything like mine, you were taught that desires of the flesh were not to be trusted, were sinful, were to be ignored and be ashamed of. I know it feels incredibly enmeshed into the fabric of our being, but try to see our humanness as pure and whole. I don’t believe that a supposedly ever-loving creator would give us a human nature and then sentence us to trying to resist it and thwart it for our whole lives. The happiest, most joyful, and most grateful people I know have learned to accept and work with their natural urges instead of shaming themselves for them.
Our self-worth is directly related to how free we feel pursuing our fleshly desires.
